Don't take it personally - strange things have been happening in Blogger over the last day or two.
I think it's okay to be a bit of cheapskate - because it means that your sites will have longevity! The amount of wonderful websites I see, with their own lovely domain names, bells & whistles, blahdy blahdy blah - and next you know they're gone and the domain's for sale (even a slightly late renewal is enough to bring down a company site in a lot of cases).
I stash most of my pictures at Photobucket: http://www.photobucket.com and cross link the URL from my Blog posts. You can probably do likewise with your Avatar, to save Blogspot bandwidth...
And people will find you, it just takes a little while!

I've been clicking through some of your old posts & really like your blog. I particularly related to the one about "tidying up" the chocolates around the house so as to set the stage for future healthy eating. We just did this, and then family packs of Hershey bars were on sale at the grocery store today, and my son has been wanting to make s'mores, so I couldn't resist.
I've added things to my blog template that messed up the blog several times already, and I'm quite new to this. I don't know anything about how the codes work, and just wind up more confused when I read the "help" stuff. Still, it Is fun when it works!
